Song of the Sea (海之歌) for Wind Orchestra

Song of the Sea presents a vivid series of sea-inspired musical images. The piece opens with a tranquil depiction of the ocean, gradually building into towering, dramatic waves. A shift in mood follows, transforming into a lyrical barcarolle—an ode to the sea’s beauty and mystery. This composition serves as the overture to the musical theatre production The Eight Immortals’ Adventures, jointly presented by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre in December 2010. The wind band version was commissioned and premiered by the Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra in 2012, with support from the CASH Music Fund. Since its premiere, Song of the Sea has been performed internationally, including at the Waterlooville Music Festival in the UK (2012) and the Colorado Music Festival in the United States (2019).
