Composed by Huang Yijun in the 1930s and later adapted by Peng Xiuwen into a version for Chinese orchestral ensemble, Full Moon & Blossoming Flowers is a beloved festive piece often performed as the grand finale at Lunar New Year galas and major celebrations. The music opens with a lively allegro introduction, setting a jubilant tone. The main theme follows with gentle, graceful melodies that evoke scenes of dancing beneath blooming flowers and a full moon. The middle section features a brisk rhythm, with rich low-register instruments painting a vivid picture of joyful moonlit revelry. The finale revisits the main theme in rapid variation, building to a climactic atmosphere that symbolizes reunion, harmony, and prosperity. A wind band arrangement by Alfred Wong reimagines the piece with Western instrumentation, blending traditional Chinese charm with vibrant symphonic textures.
